Alan Schulman joins The Meltzer Group

Alan Schulman 10ed1b3The Meltzer Group has hired insurance industry veteran Alan Schulman, who brings with him a vast array of experiences from his more than 30-year career. Schulman began his financial services career in 1981 as a Certified Financial Planner, before transitioning to employee benefits in 1988. In this role, Schulman worked with company owners on their employee benefit offerings.

Licensed in health, life, long term care and property & casualty, Shulman has real-life experience running a business, and he’s relied on these experiences to drive better outcomes for his clients, helping to manage costs, drive participant outcomes, reduce risk and remain compliant.

“We’re very excited to welcome Alan Schulman to The Meltzer Group family,” Chief Operating Officer Ethan Foxman explained. “I’ve known Alan for a number of years, having worked with him in previous positions and I’ve come to learn that Alan is a true pro. He’s knowledgeable, committed to service, and constantly looking to improve himself. I know he’ll have a big impact on what we’re trying to accomplish here.”

“I have been here at The Meltzer Group for just under two months and the old adage, ‘that you can learn something new every day ‘ is alive and well in these offices. The service and knowledge, the team approach that The Meltzer Group brings to the table for their clients is unsurpassed and makes it one of the best companies to work for in the greater Washington Metropolitan area.”

Schulman is a past president of The Greater Washington National Association of Health Underwriters (GWAHU), and he’s currently the president of the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters (MAHU). In 2010, Schulman was appointed to the board of HUPAC (Health Underwriters Political Action Committee) for NAHU (National Association of Health Underwriters). In 2017, Schulman will be the National Chairman for HUPAC.

In 2014, Schulman was appointed to the Board of Directors of Hearts and Homes for Youth, a local non-profit organization dedicated to serving youth who have overcome adversity. He continues to hold this position today. Hearts and Homes will award Schulman their first-ever Chairman’s Award at the annual Honors dinner in October of 2015. The Chair of Hearts and Homes’ Board of Directors confers this award to an individual for his or her outstanding dedication and commitment to the agency and its mission. Their support combined with their other good works in the community has enhanced our standing as an organization and has helped us to significantly improve the lives of children.

A lifetime member of the Leading Producers Round Table of NAHU, Schulman also serves on the Joint Legislative Task Force in Maryland, a group of health agents that works with their association’s lobbyist and meets with legislators to assist in the creation of laws that affect the cost of health insurance in the state of Maryland. In addition, Schulman is a member of the Maryland and DC Health Insurance Exchange Advisory Committees.
