MGB Fall Seminar focused on PPACA Compliance as we near 2015

MGB Seminar September 2014One of our primary responsibilities at The Meltzer Group is to continually educate and update our clients on the latest trends and developments within the insurance world. One way we do this is to host educational seminars throughout the year on various topics and items of interest.

On September 11th, Meltzer Group Benefits hosted its Fall Healthcare Reform Seminar, which focused on “Staying on Track with Your PPACA Compliance.” Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center served as the location for the three-hour event, which was attended by over 220 people.

With the seminar falling on September 11th, The Meltzer Group invited a special guest to address the crowd to get things started. U.S. Army Special Forces Captain Ben Harrow, a Green Beret who lost both of his legs in 2012 while stationed overseas, delivered an inspiring speech, detailing his long road back to recovery and what September 11th means to him. Captain Harrow received two standing ovations during his time on stage.

Suzanne Spradley, Senior Vice President, Senior Counsel at The Meltzer Group’s parent company, NFP, then delivered a Legislative Update on PPACA. She covered topics such as employer mandate reporting requirements, reinsurance contributions and the approaching Cadillac Tax.

Spradley then led an open discussion on Healthcare Reform, answering a series of questions for the audience. She touched on what businesses within certain sectors should be on the lookout for from a compliance standpoint, tax implications, and new employer fees associated with PPACA.

To wrap the seminar up, The Meltzer Group invited a panel of experts to discuss various topics, including life insurance, disability insurance and FMLA. The panel included Jason Murphy of Cigna, Becky Eakle of Lincoln Financial, Chris Morton of Guardian and Amy Gulati from HeliosHR, The Meltzer Group’s HR Services partner.

Questions for the panel ranged from what information clients should be sharing with their Meltzer Group Benefits team members prior to changing ancillary carriers, varying laws based on what states someone lives and works, and what changes have been made in FMLA rules in regards to coverage for domestic partners.
